Never stop learning
Learning doesn’t stop once you leave school- it’s a continuing process.
The aim in Cheshire is to provide lifelong learning opportunities to match the needs of changing demand and shaped to encourage a wide uptake among all ages.
Around 11 per cent of adults in Cheshire are likely to be involved in courses provided through Adult and Community Learning which taps into further education colleges, the voluntary and community sector along with bodies such as the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA), and Wilmslow Guild.
Opportunities to learn in a structured way help many people rise to new challenges at home, at work or in the community. This may be for interest, pleasure or to raise skills for career advancement. Ideally, taking up new learning challenges will effortlessly combine all three!
In Cheshire, research reveals that more people want more adult classes, more IT facilities and more training courses linked to work. Already many courses are supported by Learning and Skills Council funding.
But the key to making this happen mean staking positive action to tackle obstacles that stand in the way.
Opportunity varies according to where individuals live, their previous educational experience and qualifications - and, not least - their age. Barriers - such as access in rural areas, affordability, choice - can be real. Others, such as lack of confidence, while often not addressed, are just as significant.
Whether it’s yoga or computing skills, developing ideas to help shape the architecture and design of your community or helping voluntary agencies direct resources to help others, including older people, those recovering from a stroke or people with autism - a great treasure of potential is being tapped.
