Wood sculptures are carving out a name for themselves – thanks to Cheshire’s drive to showcase artistic talent in natural settings.
Take a stroll around countryside parks and spot interesting sculptures hewn from trees felled by nature and now serving a new purpose as benches for weary walkers or simply as talking points to enliven the landscape.
Cheshire giant root ball – focal point of the national roving exhibition of the artistic potential yielded by an ancient oak culled from the vast acres of Knutsford’s Tatton Park - attracted huge interest.
The entire tree provided material for over 70 artists who crafted anything from hand-made paper or furniture to wood sculptures or jewellery from the natural resource, thought to be over 300 years old.
