Extended Schools Services are offered for the benefit of pupils, other children and young people, parents/carers, families and the wider community. Services are generally offered outside of the curriculum and are not compulsory. Extended School Services are arranged by the school, though not always delivered by the school. Services can be delivered by other providers or by partnership arrangements with the school and other providers.
''An Extended School is a school that recognises that it cannot work alone in helping children and young people to achieve their potential, and therefore decided to work in partnership with other agencies that have an interest in the outcomes for children and young people, and with the local community. In doing so, it aims to help meet not only the school's objectives but also to share in helping to meet the wider needs of children, young people, families and wider community''
