Fruits of the Forest Route Description 23km (15 miles) 3 hours
Fruits of the Forest Map
This is a hilly ride of 23km (15 miles) from Delamere around the lanes of Kelsall and Utkinton.
| Explore the rolling countryside towards the northern end of Cheshire's sandstone spine.
The ride starts in Delamere Forest, along wide tracks through mixed woodland. Keep an eye out for fungi beneath the majestic sweet chestnut avenues, which glow in the autumn sunshine.
Soon you reach Kelsall, the first of three villages nestled beneath the broad sandstone ridge. Everywhere you look there is evidence of local stone being put to good use, in walls, buildings and gateposts.
A steep climb from Utkinton is rewarded with panoramic views across the plain to Peckforton and the distant hills of Wales and Shropshire beyond. Look out for llamas as you go.
This is a fertile area, famous for fruit farms producing succulent strawberries, apples and other delights. Call in at one of the farm shops along the way, or take a well earned break and pick your own. |
 |
Enjoy a last 'roller-coaster' descent down the Yeld before making your way back through the forest.
How to get there:
The route starts from the car park at Linmere Picnic Area.
