The Wizard Trail Route Description 17.5km (11 miles) 2 hours
The Wizard Trail Map
A scenic ride exploring the rolling parkland around Alderley and Henbury.
The journey begins at Alderley Edge, the heart of Cheshire's wizard country. Here you can explore the woodlands, discover the old copper and lead mines or visit the Wizard's Well with its famous legend:
'Drink of this and take thy fill, For the water falls by the Wizard's will.'
The Trail starts with an easy ride down beautiful beech-lined Artists Lane. Close by is Nether Alderley Mill, a 15th century watermill, restored and owned by the National Trust.
Cartloads of heavy building stone once trundled over the cobbles of Bradford Lane on their way down from the quarry to Finlow Hill.
Cycle along Hocker Lane through magnificent parkland and enjoy fine views of the attractive church of St Catherine's at Birtles.
The trail skirts around Henbury Hall, a national venue for horse trials and carriage driving.
The final stretch of the ride takes you past Hare Hill, also owned by the National Trust, with splendid azaleas, rhododendrons and a walled garden.
How to get there:
The route starts at the National Trust Car Park at Alderley Edge.
