Step back in time and explore a remnant of the ancient hunting forest of Mara and Mondrum. Little Budworth is a splendid example of lowland heathland and is home to some very special plants and animals. In late summer the areas of purple heather are gradually being extended. Follow the Heathland Trail, pausing along the way to watch for wildlife, or sit quietly by the pond.
Listen out for a 'yaffle', the distinctive call of the green woodpecker in the woodland. In summer, tree pipits, wood warblers and willow warblers add their song to the woodland chorus. Dusk is the ideal time to watch for bats, as they come out to feed on the insects around the trees.
