Linear Trails - Salt Line and Merelake Way

Walkers, cyclists and horse riders can take the traffic free route from Hassall Green to Alsager along the Salt Line, with footpath links to the Trent and Mersey Canal and Rode Heath Rise.

Walkers can enjoy excellent bird watching in the wooded cuttings along the Merelake Way.

Exploring further afield

Circular walks along the Trent and Mersey Canal, to the tea shop at Hassall Green, are especially popular.

Walking Walks around Crewe and Nantwich - Haslington is a 6.5km (4 miles) circular walk along footpaths and country lanes.

Cycling Crosses and Crossbars is a leisurely 34km bike ride starting from Sandbach railway station, with some great opportunities for bird watching along the way.

Not all the entrances are fully accessible. There are plans to improve access over the next 5 years.

How to Get ThereHow to get there:

There is direct access to the Salt Line from Alsager, or you can walk along the canal from Wheelock. There is a small car park south of Hassall Green, off the A533.

The Merelake Way is a short walk from Alsager railway station along Linley Road. There is also a car park at the entrance.
