The Countryside and Rights of Way Office

The office is situated in Phoenix House, Winsford - right in the heart of Cheshire. Phoenix House brings under one roof all of The Council’s rights of way staff who, until late 2004, were split between Whitegate Station at Marton, Station House at Willaston and Goldsmith House in Chester.

The Countryside Access Manager is based here, together with an administrative team and:

Definitive Map section
Eight PROW officers dealing with definitive map issues, path diversions, temporary closures etc are based here.

Definitive Maps and Statements of Cheshire's public rights of way are available for public inspection at Phoenix House during normal office hours. If you wish to see the map, it is advisable to phone beforehand to ensure that a member of staff can be on hand to assist with any enquiries you may have. Copies of Public Path Orders and Definitive Map Modification Orders - both current and past - can also be inspected here.

Countryside Access Development section
The section comprises two countryside access development officers, an assistant countryside access officer and the visitor services officer each working from this office.

The Public Rights of Way Maintenance & Enforcement Section
This section deals with the day to day maintenance of Cheshire's public rights of way network. The PROW maintenance and enforcement manager is based here together with a team of six PROW maintenance and enforcement officers and two survey assistants.

Prior appointment is advised before visiting the maintenance section as maintenance officers will very often be out 'in the field'.
