Routes for Walkers

As a walker you can enjoy each of these:

public footpaths
bridleways
'byways open to all traffic' (BOAT's)
'restricted byways'
permissive/concessionary footpaths and bridleways
all public roads (except motorways and some other high speed roads)
footways at the side of the road
unsealed public roads
canal towpaths
country parks & picnic areas
most land owned by National Trust, Woodland Trust and the Forestry Commission
open country and registered common land

You will find all of these and more shown on Ordnance Survey maps. There is also a huge number of leaflets, guides and magazines which are published describing walks to suit every taste. Access to Open Country

Public access on foot (sometimes known as the 'right to roam') over open country and registered common land in England and Wales is now in place. Open country and other access land is shown on the latest OS Explorer maps. Your access rights are subject to certain restrictions and some areas of land may be excluded at times.
