The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 requires that 'local access forums' be set up across England and Wales to advise local authorities and the Countryside Agency / Countryside Council for Wales on putting the new legislation into effect.
Each forum consists of between 12 and 20 individuals drawn from the local community and representing a wide cross section of interests. A single forum has been established by Cheshire County Council and Warrington Borough Council to cover their combined areas. This forum covers all of Warrington and Cheshire except for that part of the county inside the Peak District National Park. A separate Forum covers the whole of the Peak Park.
The Forum meets several times each year sometimes in Cheshire and at other times in Warrington to consider a variety of access topics, for example:
- The management of access to 'open country' and registered common land.
- The production and implementation of the Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
- Review of tourism and recreation strategies.
The Forum is independent of both Cheshire County Council and Warrington Borough Council. All meetings of the Forum are open to the public and agendas and minutes are published on this website.
