Below we have listed cycling routes that are located only within the boundaries of Cheshire and some that pass through our county on their way to many varied locations throughout the country. Many of these have links to downloadable maps and information about that route.These routes are suitable for cyclists of all ages, but children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

National Cycle Network Routes -
- Route 5 Chester to Kidsgrove download - a 82km/51 mile journey. It is part of the Reading to Bangor in North Wales route. Also part of this route is Chester to Connah's Quay download - a 13 km/8 mile traffic-free railway path for cyclists and walkers. Please note: following a request from local farmers "Please close all gates after use" along this route.
- Route 45 Whitchurch to Chester download - a 48km/30 mile journey and is part of the Chester to Salisbury route. This route takes you along many of our rural roads and as you near Chester, the Shropshire Union Canal tow paths are used. Near to this route at Burwardsley can be found The Old Smithy Camping Barnyard. A newly established website where further information about this route can be found, is called National Cycle Route 45 The Mercian Way
- Route 55 Congleton to Marple download - a 40km/25 mile ride. This route is a section of the Telford to Preston cycle route.
- Route 56 Chester to Neston download - a 26km/16mile route and is the first section of the Chester to Liverpool Town Hall cycle route.
- Route 70 Cheshire Cycleway (Chester to Acton Bridge/Acton Bridge to Bollington) - a 282 km/176 mile journey around the whole County through some of Cheshire's finest scenery, avoiding busy roads where possible with important features along the way, like food, accommodation, local attractions and pubs. It was was re-launched at Tatton Park in June 2002 with new routes added, the following leaflet Cheshire Cycleway leaflet download gives details. - Route 71 Teggs Nose to Parkgate download - a 100km/62 mile route, this route can also be done in stages with suitable accommodation available along the route. A DVD of this route is available along with a streaming video of it's content, see below for the link to this information. Please note: following a request from local farmers "Please close all gates after use" along this route.
Cross Country - a bicycle ride across Cheshire (Teggs Nose to Parkgate)
- Route 73 Congleton to Davenham download - a 28km/18 mile cycle route and provides a link between Route 55 to the east and Route 5 which runs through the centre of the county and onto Wales.
- Route 74 Wrenbury to Sandbach download - a 24km/15 mile ride and is also a link between Route 45 Salisbury to Chester and Route 5 Reading to Bangor.
- Route 75 Market Drayton to Winsford download - a 38km/22 miles ride, this route starts at the county boundary near Audlem.
- Millennium Cycleway download - this route is part of the National Millennium Cycle Network. It presently runs from the Wirral boundary near Thornton Hough, through Chester and on into Wales at the Flintshire border, it uses sections of Routes 5, 56 and 70 through Cheshire.
Please note that all cycle routes mentioned above can be done in stages, with many of the routes having places to stop for refreshments, overnight accommodation, shops (including cycle shops), places of interest. You can plan your stops by using our interactive Cheshire Cycleway webpages.
