ECO Purchasing

Objectives

Select and promote goods and services which are least damaging to the environment and work with suppliers to address such issues.

Information

If only a tiny fraction of the Countys budget was spent on environmentally friendly products, then collectively the Council could make a big difference.

The Council has committed itself to ongoing improvements in its own environmental performance and has adopted a corporate environmental policy as the first step in this process. Purchasing is one of the seven key action areas identified in the Council Environmental Policy.

Buying a better environment is a simple and effective way to contribute towards a more sustainable Cheshire. The selection of goods that are least damaging to the environment is fundamental to this key action. To assist this process a Green Office Guide has been prepared by the ECO team.

Council members have directed County Managers to consider the environmental credentials of products before making purchasing decisions.
