Council Pool Cars
As part of the Council’s Staff Travel Scheme, and to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability and the environment, the County Council operates a fleet of eleven pool vehicles. The majority of the vehicles are built in Cheshire, four of which are low emission, gas powered Vauxhall Astras.
The operation of the pool vehicle fleet is a positive part of the Environment Department’s commitment towards the use of fuel efficient vehicles. It means that the Council leads by example, at a time when many Cheshire businesses are addressing the way in which they manage their own fleet vehicles.
One of the main benefits of encouraging employees to use pool vehicles is that the overall cost of business travel is reduced. This has a beneficial effect, not only on overall service budgets, but also in that staff making use of a pool vehicle do not need to bring their own cars to work.
The pool vehicles are for the use of Cheshire County Council employees based in central Chester, Backford Hall and Rivacre Business Centre, who require a vehicle for work purposes where otherwise they would have to use their own car. Any member of staff (especially those designated as occasional users) needing to make a business trip by car should check the availability of the pool vehicles first.
Employees are advised to book the vehicles as early as possible in order to ensure availability and efficient use. All pool vehicles carry up to three or four passengers. The current fleet of vehicles includes:
- 2 x VAUXHALL ASTRA VANS (LPG GAS/PETROL)
- 4 x VAUXHALL CORSAS (DIESEL)
- VAUXHALL ZAFIRA (DIESEL)
- VAUXHALL AGILA (PETROL)
- 2 x VAUXHALL ASTRA ESTATE CARS (LPG GAS/PETROL)
- FORD TRANSIT VAN (DIESEL)
