Internal County Council Recycling Schemes
The County Council promotes recycling within its own establishments. Recent waste audits have shown that at its 2 largest administrative offices (County Hall and Backford Hall) that over 65% of waste arising are currently being recycled.
Paper waste
The County Council recycles the majority of its paper waste (including newspapers, magazines and office waste paper) from nearly all of it offices, establishments and libraries. A number of schools have also set up paer recycling schemes. The majority of its confidential waste is also shredded before being ultimately recycled.

Mobile phones
All redundant work mobile phones are recycled with a Cheshire based company. Staff can also recycle their own personal mobile phones through the scheme. The monies raised help to fund environmental activities within schools.
Toner and Ink jet cartridges
The Council has a programme for collecting used toner and ink jet cartridges for recycling. The monies raised help to fund environmental activities within schools. Some offices and some schools also purchase remanufactured cartridges saving money and resources.
Plastic and Metal
All County establishmnets and offices have the opportunity to recycle plastic and metal.
CDs, DVDs and batteries
The Council has facilities to recycle all its unwanted CDs, DVDs and their cases and all household type batteries.
Furniture and Equipment
The County runs an internal virtual swap shop so that unwanted but working items and furniture can be redistributed between Services. The items are also made available to not for profit organisations working in Cheshire. Around 100 items, anything from plastic forks and plants to filing cabinets and desks are redistributed in this way each year.
