Hartford High School has completed a range of projects that contribute to improving environmental performance. The work is co-ordinated by ACES (Action Committee for Eco-School). The following provides an up to date summary of the work being progressed by ACES and some of the current costs.
Travel Work
The base for the cycle cages was completed during the summer holidays. The cycle cages are to be ordered and the existing cycle stands are to be renovated.
Landscaping Works
Designs are being developed for a seating area. Plans are being prepared, costed and bids for funding are to be made.
Curricular Activities
Work is being completed with WWF to develop a module of work for PSHCE-Education for Environmental Sustainability and Citizenship. Hartford is one of four secondary schools in the country to gain this funding.
A group called ESD has been formed (Education for Sustainable Development). Meetings are scheduled for 1 lesson each half term and interim twilight meetings are to be set. The group is made up of a deputy head teacher, teachers, a governor representative, a parent, a non-teaching member of staff and a representative from the Schools Council and ACES.
New Initiatives
ACES are organising a thought for the day for Human Rights;
Cloughwood School is running a 'wind power' workshop with ACES;
Pupils are wishing to take and active part in the 'seating area project and are beginning to develop fundraising ideas;
