Anyone visiting Harthill will be impressed with the setting of the school, nestling in the Peckforton Hills.

They will be equally impressed with the diverse range of Eco schools work taking place and the commitment to environmental issues in the school.
The work is led by Headteacher Mo Morron and teacher Angela Johnson. Environmental issues are integrated into most elements of the school from the interest of governors through to measuring and weighing recycled papers.
The Eco information is of international interest, as all the details are shared with the twin schools in Ghana and Barcelona.
The school became an Eco School just over 2 years ago and have improved the range of environmental work since that time. The following provides a flavour of the work taking place within the school.
Litter

The school has a litter officer who organises collections and improves the awareness of pupils within the school. A weekly litter pick is completed.
Recycling
Waste is an important issue within Harthill and is used to link curricular issues. Weighing recycled paper, use of recycled materials within art and craft and cardboard recycling are undertaken within the school. The school cook helps to reduce waste and is an important element of the school Eco Committee. The photograph below shows the weekly process of paper weighing. The display behind was completed with recycled materials.
Information

A range of environmental information is provided to pupils on energy, waste and wildlife. The school has started to build a web site to provide information on the schools Eco activities. All juniors will be detailing their eco jobs on the site.

Waste Minimisation

Reducing the use of paper within the class forms part of the school Eco Code. The pupils completed
the action plan process of Eco Schools and decided that reducing waste paper was a priority.
Purchasing
The school continues to use recycled paper for photocopying (Evolve Office).
