Abbey National Charitable Trust
The trust award grants to registered charities or charitable organisations for projects in areas of disadvantage. There are nine priority areas this year, none of which include Cheshire. However, projects outside these areas will be considered, although a maximum grant of £2,500 is available. Applications should be made by letter. Alan Titchmarsh Trust Fund - Gardens for Schools
This trust is open to all UK Primary Schools, applications must be made by an official representative of the school. Up to £500 is available towards the purchase of plants, trees, shrubs, wildlife ponds, compost and tools etc. Projects must develop children's interest in sustaining not only gardens and gardening skills, but also the environment as a whole. Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation
Give grants to charitable organisations for a range of projects including environmental ones. Grants available up to £5,000. Phone for a copy of the guidelines, before making an application. Grants are awarded on a rolling programme. Tel: 0207 4082198.
BOC Foundation for the Environment

Ernest Cook Trust
Provide small grants (up to £3000) to schools for a variety of educational work, provided it is in addition to core work of the LEA. Funding for school grounds will be available for materials or equipment, rather than services. Garfield Weston Foundation

Hedley Foundation
Grants to registered charities for a variety of issues under their main objective of young people. Includes education, training, health and welfare. Average grant £3000. Lennox Hannay Charitable Trust
The Lennox Hannay Charitable trust fund a wide variety of projects undertaken by charitable organisations. The average grant is £5,000. The Trust meet quarterly so applications can be at any time. Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales
The Foundation will consider funding schools with charitable status or an associated charity, where projects will benefit disabled students or are clearly extra to the legal responsibilities of the school. The Kelly Family Charitable Trust
A new grant-giving trust offering grants of between £1000 and £5000 to local charities. Funding is aimed at helping local community projects that make a difference to the lives of people locally. The Trust will provide both capital and revenue grants and is keen to support innovative partnership projects. Initial applications should be confined to two sides of A4 paper and supported by annual accounts where available. Submissions should include an outline of the history and purpose of the charity, total cost of the project, what grant is being requested and what it will be spent on, funding already in place, how the project will benefit the community and how results will be measured. Trustees meet twice a year in May and October. Applications must be submitted by 1 March and 1 August. All applications should be addressed to: S. Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund
Grants are available in the following areas of Cheshire: Altrincham, High Legh, Comberbach, Cranage, Alderley Edge, Dunham Park, Knutsford, Goostrey, Wilmslow, Marton. In the case of schools, grants will not be awarded unless it is for a project which is clearly over and above the school’s core activity and statutory requirements. School projects must clearly demonstrate benefit and access to the wider community above and beyond that extended to the pupils. The maximum grant is now £15,000 but the average size is up to £5,000. Manifold Trust
The trust makes small grants to other charities only for work in local conservation. The majority of grants are under £1000. Applications for grants should be made in writing describing the project, the amount sought and the costs of the project, other sources of funding sought, copies of accounts. Marsh Christian Trust
The trust will fund smaller charitable organisations. Grants average £250, although the trust prefers to provide longer term funding for on going projects, often for core costs. Princes Trust

Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust
The Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust has been giving grants to a wide range of community based projects since 1972. The trust focuses on projects that benefit the environment and public health. The Sainsbury Foundation Family Trust
A suite of 19 different Trusts including The Linbury Trust, JJ Charitable Trust, Ashden Charitable Trust and Headley Trust. All share the same premises and applications for funding are circulated between trusts. Grants are awarded to charitable organisations. Categories for funding include arts, the environment and education. An initial enquiry should be made before an application is submitted, as unsolicited applications are rarely successful. Tesco Charity Trust – Community Awards
The Community Awards Programme benefits local community projects whose core work supports, amongst other things, children’s education and welfare. Awards, which are targeted towards local communities with a Tesco store, are given on a one-off basis and range from between £1,500 to £5,000. In the first instance you should write to the charity, with brief details of your project proposals. If your project fits the criteria for a Community Award, you will be advised accordingly and sent an application form. You can write to the Trust at any time of the year but awards are allocated in one annual funding round, the closing date for which is the 31st January. Will Charitable Trust
Funding between £3000 - £25,000 available to registered charities for conservation work. Favour habitat creation such as native woodland, heathland, meadows, or projects to improve biodiversity. Funding available for both service and material costs. Awarded once per year, applications should be received before August. Yorkshire Bank Charitable Trust – Educational Awards Scheme
The trust provides financial assistance up to £500 to support projects that focus on education, in particular arts, music, science and conservation. Applications are open to all schools that have an account with Yorkshire Bank. Applications must be submitted by 1st December each year. Successful applicants will be notified in the February of the following year. Yorkshire Bank Conservation Award
