Local organisations may prove to be a useful source of funding, materials or other resources such as labour. Prepare an information pack for distribution to local shops, businesses, and organisations. You may want to send this to:
- Local press, radio and newspapers
- Local shops and businesses in the area
- Larger companies, chains or supermarkets that operate in the area
Include in it details of why the school wishes to improve its grounds, how the school community has been working together on it, what it is you are hoping to achieve and how much it will cost. Include copies of plans or drawings, photographs of the current school grounds and information on what has been done and who has been involved already. This provides depth and interest, as well as being publicity material for other uses such as press releases. Include contact names and details of how recipients can become involved or would be acknowledged in sponsoring or supporting the project.
It may be worth considering setting up a Gift Aid scheme for parents and the community to make donations to. This will generate an annual pot of money that can be spent on each phase of your project.
