Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF)
The ALSF operates nationally to provide funding to tackle a wide range of problems in areas affected by the extraction of aggregates. Anyone can apply but normally partnerships with lead players e.g. local authorities, Groundwork, Wildlife Trusts, RSPB do so. ALSF is administered by three organisations depending upon the type of application;
• community and recreational benefits (Countryside Agency),
• habitat restoration, creation and species recovery (English Nature), and
• improvement of historic landscape (English Heritage).
Funds open to projects which encourage community involvement in areas which are, or have been, affected by aggregates extraction. Refer to relevant organisations for specific criteria. Awards for All
The initiative which is part of Lottery Funding, is available to not-for-profit groups, including schools. Awards are available sport, art, environment, heritage, education or health related activities. Funds of £500 - £5,000 may be awarded and can be applied for at any time. Schools projects must be extra-curricular, i.e. activities taking place outside the school day (not including lunch time). B & Q - You can do it Award Scheme
£5,000 worth of B&Q materials is available for 20 projects each year, which will help to transform their facilities and premises. Projects must take no longer than 6 weeks to complete. Some groups have also been given smaller donations in kind by their local store. Contact your local store manager for more information.

BBC Children in Need
Whilst BBC Children in Need will fund schools that are registered charities, you should be aware that the focus is on benefiting children disadvantaged by mental / physical or sensory disabilities; behavioural or psychological problems; living in poverty or situations of deprivation; illness, distress, abuse or neglect. Your project may be eligible however, so it is worth finding out more. Information on eligibility criteria and guidelines for applicants are available on the BBC’s website, Children in Need
Barclays New Futures
A grant scheme to aid school projects which take positive action to benefit their communities and which provide opportunities to develop key skills. Secondary schools or special schools are eligible for awards of up to £3,000 individually or £7,000 if applying in a group which can include primary schools. Black Environment Network (BEN) - The Ethnic Minorities Award Scheme for Environmental Projects

BT School Awards
BT are offering up to 240 awards of £2,000 to schools across the UK. Three winning schools will also receive development awards of £10,000. All UK schools with pupils aged between 3 and 16 can apply for an award for a project that demonstrates good practice in Citizenship, a positive impact on pupils’ speaking and listening skills or the development of the skills, attitudes and experiences young people need to fulfil their roles as active and responsible citizens.
An award-winning project will demonstrate how the application of effective interpersonal communication is a central element of active Citizenship. It will have a definable educational dimension; that is, it will provide pupils (and others, perhaps) with the opportunity to develop or expand their communication skills in fulfilling the project’s aim. It should also make a measurable difference to the community. Deadline 12th Nov.

BTCV - Peoples Places
The purpose of the People's Places Award Scheme is to help less advantaged groups develop or improve accessible 'green spaces'. Typical projects may be transforming a derelict, underused or unsightly building or area of land into an environmental community resource involving local people. The project must be a new project, or a new aspect of an existing project, bring benefits to the environment such as increased biodiversity, visual improvements, and better access and bring environmental and/or social benefits to the community e.g. improved community safety, crime reduction, opportunities for exercise, empowerment of disadvantaged groups, stronger community links etc. The scheme is running five years from May 2001. Comic Relief
Comic Relief spends money in the UK to overcome poverty, disadvantage or injustice. This includes people with disabilities, teenagers with drug and alcohol problems, older people, deprived communities and people facing racial, cultural or sexual discrimination. 2 levels of grants Up to £5,000 and over £5,000. Continyou School Community awards

Co-op Community Dividend scheme
Funding between £100 -£5000 is open to projects that promote 'co-operative solutions in communities', in voluntary, self help, co-operative or not for profit organisations. Past funding has included play equipment, fencing and sponsorship of events. The scheme usually purchases equipment or commissions work - cheques do not normally go to a group directly. Pick up a leaflet in-store.
DFES – Community Champions
The Community Champions Fund was set up by the DfES to help support and develop the work of local people who are involved in, or who want to be involved in, changing their communities for the better. The fund also aims to encourage older (50+) volunteers to get involved in helping their communities and to facilitate young people in heir own forms of Community Action. Dulux Community Projects Scheme
Under the Community Projects Scheme, applications can be made for free paint and up to £1,000 towards the cost of local environmental projects.
