The Earth Centre is currently closed. It is now in administration and is no longer open to the public.
It is however still possible to access the Trans Pennine Trial by using the bridge which crosses the River Don as Earth Centre.
The Earth Centre is around 2 hours from Cheshire, located in a reclaimed mining valley near to Doncaster. The site has been transformed by an ambitious reclamation programme together with funding from the National Lottery. The centre was opened in 1999 and was designed to inspire visitors to take action for a sustainable future.
The centre has developed an Education programme for schools, colleges and universities focused on sustainable development and citizenship. Information and Education packs for schools are available by phoning 01709 513944.
New for 2001 was a range of physical activities and a study centre equipped with an IT room and ecology laboratory. "Nature works" will be popular with all school visits. This is an indoor laboratory connected by pipe and boardwalk to an adjacent pond and has been designed perfectly for pond dipping and ecology demonstrations.
Also on the site is the UK’s largest solar canopy, planet earth galleries, a restaurant, a sensory trail, several adventure playgrounds, a theatre area and numerous other activities. A new hotel building also caters for residential visits.
The Earth Centre was built on ecological principles, with as little water and energy expended during construction.
A number of Cheshire schools have travelled over the Pennines to explore the 26 acres of gardens, 400 acres of country park. The Earth Centre is near to Denaby Main, Doncaster.
