Diversity and Equality Good Practice
Examples of good practice within Cheshire County Council include:
- Cheshire Rural Touring Network undertook an assessment, carried out by an independent specialist, to discover how accessible their venues were to the public. Special symbols are used in the leaflet to show the total number of steps to the entrance and other access issues.
- Catering ‘Theme Days’ in schools have been introduced to ensure that school children across the county are aware of various different types of food, from different cultures around the world.
- Cheshire Positive Business Awards. These awards recognise good practice in companies who employ disabled people. The Awards not only encourage recognition of the skills that disabled people bring to the local economy but also aim to increase the number in employment
- The Welfare to Work Partnership Group continues to address the issues faced by disabled people when trying to move into employment
- The County Council is currently working closely with the Government’s Office of Disability in a project to explore the needs of disabled people more closely
