Should you need to visit one of our buildings and need to know about arrangements for accessibility, we would recommend that you contact us in advance.
The County Property Management Service has for some years now been working to improve access into our Council's buildings in an effort to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), for which purpose a modest capital allocation, typically £125k per year, has been used to effect physical improvements to our publicly accessible buildings; libraries, offices etc. Our record in this area has been measured annually and reported to the Audit Commission against their Performance Indicator BV 156. |

Having facilitated access audits on all the Council's buildings to which the public have access including schools, it is the responsibility of each service to allocate funding to carry out the necessary improvements through their capital programmes, for example Community Services have an ongoing rolling programme of about £500k per year. Our Children's Services department are working in partnership with schools to address their issues and are inputting around £1m per annum under the Special Education Needs and Discrimination Act 2001 (SENDA).
