Choice Advice and the Choice Adviser Role

The Transition between primary and secondary school can be one of the most difficult times for families and children. Admission arrangements can often appear complex and whilst the majority of families are able to work through the system successfully and gain a school place that meets their needs; there are a number of families who will find the system difficult to understand.

The main aim of the choice adviser is to empower those parents who may struggle with the admissions system, to make informed and realistic choices of which secondary school to apply for. Choice Advisers work at arms length from the local authority and offer impartial advice but do not make decisions for parents and can not guarantee a place at a particular school.

The role of the Choice Adviser is to help families optimise their choices using all the available information some of which includes admission policies, over subscription criteria, schools' Ofsted reports, and special educational needs provision.

To find out more information about the choice advice service and the role of the choice adviser please see the "Information for parents and carers" leaflet.

To find out more information about choosing a high school please download our "Moving Up?" leaflet.

Cheshire Parent Partnership Service will have a Choice Adviser working across the county. For advice or more information we can be contacted on 01829 742997 or by e-mail parentpartnership@cheshire.gov.uk
