Would You Like to Make a Difference?
Cheshire Parent Partnership Service are in need of new volunteers to act as Independent Parental Supporters (IPS). An IPS is able to offer advice and support to parents whose children have special educational needs from pre-school age right the way through to school leavers. An IPS listens to parents and enables the parents to have the confidence to express their own views and wishes for their child’s education.
If you feel you could listen to parents and attend meetings with them or help parents with paper work, maybe the IPS Training Course is for you!
The next course will start on 23rd April 2009 and will run every Thursday morning for 12 weeks at our offices.
We are having a drop in event on Thursday 19th March 2009 between 10 am and 2 pm at our offices at Chester Rural Children's Centre, Meadow Close, Tarvin, CH3 8LY. If you are interested in the training and would like to know more please come along to the drop in event where you can meet the team or if you can't make the drop in please contact us.
Please see how to become a volunteer to find out what the training is like.
Contact the Parent Partnership team for more information or to book a place on any of our events.
Events that we have run in the past have been:
- Transition to the Adult World
If you have a child who is in year 9 and has a statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN), your child will be having a transition review within this school year. The transition review is the name given to the year 9 annual review. It will help you and your child look to the future and start to consider what your child will do after year 11.
The school SENCO or Headteacher will lead the meeting, a Personal Adviser from Connexions should also attend the review. Your views and those of your child are very important and after the review a transition plan will be written up using all the information and advice received at the meeting. This is only the start of the process and the plan will be revisited in year 10 and year 11.
The Parent Partnership Service has created a Transition Review Pack which will be sent out to all parents of children with a statement in year 9 in September. In the pack we have included leaflets and information which we feel may be useful to you.
If you have any further enquiries about the Transition Review or you have not received a pack and would like one, please give the office a call on (01829) 742997.
Access the information in the Transition Review Pack.
