Two types of birth certificate are available.
• Short Certificate • Full Certificate
Certificates are held in the current register of births and deaths by a Registrar until the register has no entries left and it is competed. Once registers are completed they are deposited with the Superintendent Registrar into an archive and cost more to obtain. |

Short Certificate
After a birth has been registered, a short birth certificate showing the name, sex, date and district of birth is issued free of charge but additional copies may be purchased from a registrar.
• From a Registrar of Births and Deaths current Register - £3.50 • From a Superintendent Registrar’s deposited Register - £5.50
Full Certificate
Many parents choose to purchase a full birth certificate, to save having to obtain a copy at a later date, for example when purchasing a child passport. A full birth certificate, is a complete copy of the register entry and includes the names of both parents.
In May 2004 the law relating to birth certificates for U.K. passport applications changed. The changes affect anyone born after 31st December 1982 who applies for a U.K. passport for the first time. An applicant falling into this category is now required to provide a full birth certificate to the U.K. passport service.
• From a Registrar of Birth’s and Deaths current Register - £3.50 • From a Superintendent Registrar’s deposited Register - £7.00
Please make all Registration cheques payable to: Cheshire County Council. Payments should be made on or before the day of the service. All charges include VAT
