Burial and Cremation

Main heading

Sub-heading

A funeral in the UK can be either by burial or cremation and can be arranged with or without the help of a funeral director.

Before a burial or cremation can take place Cheshire Registration Service must issue a Certificate for Burial or Cremation  or if a coroner is involved, an Order for Burial, which should be given to a funeral director or sent to the cemetery or crematorium.

Burial Registers can be obtained from Cheshire and Chester Records and Archives and Local Studies.

 Registering a Death

District Councils are responsible for the provision of information about cemeteries and crematoria.

Where can I obtain further information?
