Fees for Marriage

Notice of Marriage

Before you can register your marriage, both partners are required legally to give Notice of Marriage. There is a charge for this of £30 each.

Marriage at the Register Office

The fee to be paid on the day is a single fee of £43.50 and includes the cost of one wedding certificate.

The fee is payable 4 weeks in advance.

1 April 2008 - 31 March 2009

  • Monday to Thursday:  £240*
  • Friday:  £260*
  • Saturday:  £315*
  • Sunday & Bank Holidays: £305*

1 April 2009 - 31 March 2010

  • Monday to Thursday:  £250*
  • Friday:  £270*
  • Saturday:  £330*
  • Sunday & Bank Holidays: £320*

Please note that these charges do not include the hire of the rooms or any other wedding services.

* This fee must be paid to the Superintendent Registrar at least 4 weeks before the ceremony is due to take place, and includes the cost of one marriage certificate, issued on the day and the attendance of two Registrars.

Extra Marriage Certificates

It is possible to obtain further copies for a fee of £3.50. However, once the marriage register is completed and deposited with the Superintendent Registrar, the fee for a certificate increases to £7.00.

Advanced Provisional Bookings

Couples wishing to marry at any Approved Premise in Cheshire are now able to book registrars up to two years in advance. A deposit of £130 is payable, which is deducted from the fee charged for the registrars to attend on the day of the marriage.

Important Note:  If you have been living on your own and claiming Single Person Discount on Council Tax, and are now going to be living with your spouse, then please ensure you notify the relevant authority.
