"Most of the audience had not been to such an event before and the balance between formal and relaxed was widely appreciated. The family agreed that the day was a success and we thank you for playing your part so well".
Mr Bradley of Wilmslow
What is a naming ceremony?
A Naming Ceremony is a special occasion celebrating the birth and naming of a child. It provides an opportunity for parents, relatives and friends to declare their lifelong love and support for the child in a meaningful way.
Who can be involved in a naming ceremony?
Children of any age can have a Naming Ceremony and if you have more than one child, all can be included in the ceremony. The ceremony can be an ideal way to welcome older children into new family relationships or to welcome adopted children into the family. The ceremony can also be arranged to follow a marriage or renewal of vows ceremony.
Can we personalise our ceremony?
Each ceremony will be specially designed to reflect the personal wishes of the family and to celebrate the unique nature of every child.
Where can a ceremony take place?
The ceremony may take place at any of the following types of venues:
- Our Register Offices
- Our Approved Premises
- Other venue (e.g. hotels, village halls, private members clubs)
- Homes and Gardens
When can a ceremony take place?
Ceremonies can take place any day, including some bank holidays between 8.00am and 5.30pm. Register Offices are the only exception as they are not open on Sundays.
How much does it cost?
For a list of fees, please see our fee page.
How do I make a booking?
- Decide where you would like your ceremony to take place and make a provisional booking, if required.
- Contact your local Register Office to check the availability of a celebrant. Please let us know the date, time and venue where you would like the ceremony to take place.
- A confirmation letter will be sent to you and includes details about a deposit and fees payable.
- We will contact you to arrange a time for you to visit the Register Office to create your ceremony and discuss the ceremony arrangements.
- If required, a celebrant may also need to arrange to visit the ceremony location.
