phase 2 work gets underway  Archived Latest News:

23 January 2009 -
Apologies for the late notice but it was our intention to close Welsh Row at Nether Alderley for three days from Monday 26 January. Unfortunately this work has had to be postponed, probably for one week. Welsh Row will not therefore be closed to traffic on Monday 26 January. CCC apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. 

December 2008 -
Civic dignitaries have turned out to mark the official start of Phase Two of the project. Phase Two mainly involves Network Rail whose contractor Birse Rail will be carrying out preliminary
work for the new rail bridge near Welsh Row.

The preliminary work will be undertaken by special machinery driving in 20 metre long steel sheets. For more information please use this link to view the press release.November 2008 - Traffic Regulation Orders (to come into force 5 January 2009) have been made to temporarily;

1.  prohibit traffic on Welsh Row, Nether Alderley between Gatley Green Farm and its junction with Sossmoss Lane/Nursery Lane. Alternative route for traffic affected by the closure will be, north via A34 Congleton Road, south-west via A535 Ryleys Lane and Chelford Road or vice versa.
2.  introduce a 10mph speed limit on Brook Lane, Alderley Edge from a point 90 metres west of Oakhurst Chase for a distance of 280 metres in a westerly direction.

3.  extend the existing 30mph speed limit on the A535 Chelford Road, Alderley Edge from a point 55 metres south-west of Chorley Hall Close for a distance of 390 metres in a westerly direction.

4.  introduce a 30mph speed limit on the A34 Congleton Road, Nether Alderley from a point 470 metres north of Bollington Lane for a distance of 590 metres in a northerly direction.

It is anticipated that these restrictions will not be brought into operation until the end of January 2009, they will be in force at various times and dates throughout the works and will be removed when not necessary. Information boards and appropriate signage will be displayed on site to advise accordingly.
