The responsibility for dealing with abandoned vehicles is divided between the District Councils and the County Council. District Council staff, in the first instance, inspect a reported abandoned vehicle and put a 'notice' on it. If the owner does not come forward within that period, the vehicle is removed by a contractor, on behalf of the District Council, to a County Council storage area.
The District Council then informs the County Council's Waste Management Service, as it is responsible for the storage and safe disposal of these vehicles. Reasonable attempts are then made to find the owner. If traced, the owner may either collect the vehicle on payment of statutory charges or surrender the vehicle for disposal.
Listed below are the relevant District Council telephone numbers should you wish to report, or enquire about, an abandoned vehicle.
