Guide to Fault Reporting

We want to encourage people to be our eyes and report highway faults such as street lights out, damage to a traffic sign, blocked grids and any other highway related faults. Although there are regular maintenance checks, we can’t be there when every fault occurs. If faults can be picked up earlier this could prevent an accident.
Online
- Fault reporting can be done online any time of the day, any day of the week completing the simple form. Upon receipt of your form, it will be acknowledged. The appropriate Area Highways Office will then investigate the problem, prioritise this work and get back in touch with you if necessary.
By telephone or in writing
- identify the exact location of the problem, road number, street name, outside a particular house or at a particular junction
- obtain the identification number off the relevant street furniture (eg street lighting column, bollard or illuminated sign)
- give contact details in case we need to get back to you or refer your problem to a different organisation, (eg Highways Agency who look after trunk roads and motorways)
- give any other relevant information to help with the investigation
