Traffic Calming

Main heading

Sub-heading

Many local residents and communities are increasingly becoming concerned about the speed of vehicles. This has resulted in a significant rise in the number of requests for traffic calming, which has also gained an increased profile as a range of schemes have been installed around the County.

The roads most suitable for traffic calming are those in urban residential area, although a number of rural locations have had some measures installed (eg: Village Gateways incorporating signs and carriageway markings).

Traffic calming schemes can be funded from a number of sources (including the County, District and Parish Councils along with private developers).

The number of requests far exceed the available funds and schemes are often assessed and then ranked using an adopted set of criteria.

Public consultation will always be carried out as part of any scheme development.

Please contact your Area Highways Team for further advice or information.
