The Council aims to be a "well managed organisation". A commitment to good communication between those who provide services and those who use them is essential to achieving this aim. To meet this commitment, the Engineering Service will seek to:
1. Provide information, through a range of traditional and electronic media, to help people understand what we do:
- producing a wide range of consistent and informative printed publications;
- maximising the use of electronic communications to achieve the Government’s e-governance targets;
- producing and maintaining an interesting, informative and interactive Internet website;
- making non-electronic media available to those without access to, or interest in, electronic means of communication; and
- promoting easy public recognition of our Service and staff by consistent branding.
2. Understand the community's needs and expectations by involving local people, as much as possible, in our decision-making process, by:
- specifying the way in which we will consult people about our draft policies and proposals;
- reporting these views to Councillors so that they can make informed decisions on behalf of the community;
- setting up a Focus Group to comment on our communications;
- using Customer Satisfaction questionnaires to find out what our customers think of our services; and
- repeating our Highways Survey about every five years through the "Cheshire Voice" process.
3. Take advantage of developments in communications technology to improve the quality of our 24-hour customer response service by:
- adhering to or exceeding The Council's Customer Care Standards;
- co-operating with the Cheshire Information Consortium in its work to co-ordinate responses to public service demands throughout the County; and
- investigating alternative ways that we can respond to the public.
4. Ensure all staff are aware of current issues and policies by:
- maintaining a regular two-way briefing process;
- producing a fortnightly staff newsletter (Engineering News);
- providing an intra-Service website (EngNet) to give ready access to technical information; and
- ensuring that our part of the Council’s Intranet is informative and is kept up-to-date.
