Traffic Calming Policy

The concern that local communities have regarding vehicle speeds has increased over recent years. This has resulted in a significant rise in the number of requests for traffic calming, which has also gained an increased profile as a range of schemes have been installed across the County.
The roads most likely to be traffic-calmed are urban residential roads, although a number of rural locations have had some measures installed (e.g. Village Gateways incorporating signs and carriageway markings). Traffic calming schemes are funded by the County Council, District Councils and, in a few instances, a Town or Parish Council. |
The number of requests for traffic calming measures greatly exceeds the level of funding available. However, one of the key objectives is speed management, which includes traffic calming, so some additional funding may be available in the future. Public consultation will be carried out as part of any scheme development.
