Strengthening and reconstruction work on the A56 Hoole Road Railway Bridge will take place from Monday January 7 2008 with a due completion date of May 2008. To allow for parts of the bridge to be demolished and reconstructed, the bridge will need to be closed to vehicles from Monday 11 February 2008 for approximately 8 - 12 weeks. Pedestrians and cyclists will have access during this time over temporary bridges.
The closure of the bridge will mean that Hoole Road will be closed at Hoole Roundabout except for access. Access to all shops, residential and business properties along Hoole Road will be maintained at all time throughout the scheme and clear signage will be in place to indicate this. Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place for traffic heading for the City Centre.
Latest News:
- 30 April 2008 - Bridge re-opened to traffic.
- 6 February 2008 - Hoole Road shuttle bus to operate during the duration of the bridge closure.
- 4 February 2008 - Electronic Variable Messaging Signs installed to reinforce the closure message.
- January 2008 - Chester City Council secure an arrangement to open all Park and Ride sites from 06:30hrs. Between 06:30hrs - 07:30hrs the Park and Ride service will be free of charge. This arrangement will last the duration of the bridge closure.
