Cheshire Market Towns Network
Market Towns Healthchecks provide practical guidance and information for local people who want to take an active part in revitalising market towns. They are designed to help local communities find ways to assess and improve the vitality of their town and surrounding countryside.

Evolving the Cheshire Market Towns Partnership
The Cheshire Market Town Network was formed in response to a call for greater consolidation of Market Town activity in the County. Five Market Towns are currently working within partnerships to develop and implement action plans that identify local need.
The need to share good practice and provide mutual support has been the underlying rational behind the network. The ambitions of the network have now expanded beyond the exchange of good practice for the delivery of community led regeneration, towards greater recognition at County and Regional levels. From the outset the network has always sought to identify linkages with key partnerships and organisations that would ultimately provide support and develop opportunities for joint working.
Roles and Responsibilities
An aspiration of the Network is to develop broader partnership linkages and therefore increase its influence over the work of other organisations, particularly those that deliver services.
A suggested work programme for the Network includes:
-
Attract partner contributions and commitment to Cheshire’s Market Towns.
-
Link with Local Strategic Partnerships, ensuring that Community Strategies recognise Market Towns.
-
Develop and share good practice.
-
Agree a work programme to be delivered by its members. This may involve an integrated programme to benefit all market towns.
-
Commission work to produce evidence based data that will assist in the development of policy and help identify need.
-
Increase awareness of market towns, reinforcing their central role in serving the rural areas of Cheshire, helping to identify opportunities and benefits within existing plans and programmes.
-
Build capacity to help address more strategic issues.
-
Ensure that Action Plans are used by key delivery agencies, such as Local Authorities to help prioritise resources.
