Cheshire Rural Trust

"Helping Cheshire People to Help the People of Cheshire"

What is the Cheshire Rural Trust?

The Cheshire Rural Trust is an independent charitable trust established in 2002, as a result of the impact of Foot and Mouth in the County.

The Rural Trust provides a means for individuals and companies to support community projects that can improve the quality of life for people facing disadvantage, particularly in the rural areas of Cheshire.

The Cheshire Rural Trust exists to support the People (individuals) and Communities of Cheshire through:

  • Relief of social exclusion, unemployment and poverty.
  • Enabling community participation.
  • Advancement of education, health and wellbeing.
  • Encouraging rural enterprise agriculture and employment.
  • Enabling a flexible and dynamic response to disasters affecting rural Cheshire.

By:

  • The promotion of charitable giving by organisations and individuals.
  • The provision of grants to local organisations and individuals.

What Grants are Available?

  • Grants are available for community groups and individuals.
  • The maximum community group grant is £5,000.
  • The maximum individual grant is £2,000.

The grants are assessed, evaluated and awarded by the trustees who convene regularly to agree such donations.

Projects that are unlikely to be funded are those that are:

  • Non-Cheshire projects i.e. post 1995 Cheshire.
  • Likely to be funded from statutory agencies or other sources.
  • Promoting political or religious beliefs.
  • Begun before grant approval is obtained.
  • Coming from groups/organisations with an annual turnover exceeding £50,000 per annum.

Our Funds

Initial donations to set up the Trust came from the Council, His Grace the Duke of Westminster and Macclesfield Borough Council.  The Rural Trust also benefited from Big Lottery Funding to assist with the development of the infrastructure of the Trust, to ensure it is set up to provide long term benefit to the people of Cheshire.

Further donations will enable us to continue and expand the work of the Trust.  If you are interested in making a donation to the Trust please contact Chris Barrowcliff.
