Cheshire achieved a 2 star rating for Social Services in December 2005 for the fourth year in a row. The assessment is performed by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) which rates 142 Councils across the country for the quality of their care services. Cheshire was seen to be serving most children and adults well and to have ‘promising’ capacity to improve in these two areas. The Inspectors highlighted continuing improvement of an already good performance on the delivery of community equipment, together with excellent performance in providing adaptations to help disabled people. Good progress was also reported on the modernisation of learning disability services.

About the Department
Note: Cheshire is continuing to use the term 'Social Services' for its care services because this is widely understood by the general public. However, Care Services for Adults are now placed within the Council's Community Services Department and Childrens Care Services are in the Childrens Services Department.
