The Council has joined Research in Practice for Adults (RIPfA), an organisation which exists to promote evidence based practice in social care services for adults.
A lot of research is done and its findings can tell us important things about the interventions we make and the kind of outcomes which they can be expected to deliver. The challenge is to make those findings known to practitioners and managers so that they can learn from them and apply the lessons.
That is where RIPfA come in. They commission research of their own and summarise the findings of others. They produce briefing notes for practitioners, managers and councillors. They distribute tapes and DVDs. They organise workshops and training events. They provide access to research and to a network of colleagues across the country who are committed to basing their practice firmly upon evidence of what really works.
Initially RIPfA will focus purely upon social care but the intention is to connect social care more widely with the overall Wellbeing agenda.
