Who are we? What do we do? How can we help you?

The Consultation and Participation Unit sits within the Community Wellbeing Service. Carol Peevor, Performance and Projects Manager, heads the Unit, whose members are based in Goldsmith House in Chester and County Offices in Northwich. The members based in Chester are situated within the Information Development Unit.

The Unit is responsible for co-ordinating and developing Cheshire Community and Childrens Social Care Services Consultation and Participation Strategy. This aims to enable people, who use services and their carers, staff, who manage and provide those services, and partner agencies, who work alongside Cheshire County Council in the provision of social and health care, to give regular feedback on the quality, relevance, accessibility and value of services, and to participate, where possible, in service planning and development.

We offer:

Consultation Advice and Design Service – for any individual or team wishing to carry out their own consultation. Questionnaires can be tailored specifically and results analysed.

User and Carer Participation – as well as the Consultation and Participation Unit, Older People’s Adults’ and Children’s Social Care Services also have key staff, who work alongside users and carers to encourage their participation in service planning and development. CPU members work closely with these staff and offer advice and support on a regular basis.

Interagency Participation - working in partnership with health, voluntary organisations, housing, transport and other statutory organisations across the County to enable effective participation/consultation.

Regular and Commissioned Activities – see Activities Past and Present

Quality Standards - checklists are already in operation across all Community and Childrens Social Care Services. These self completion questionnaires are distributed to users at the first and subsequent review of services. They are designed to monitor assessment, care planning and provision of services. Results are analysed by CPU and fed back to the appropriate service on a quarterly basis.

Older Peoples Network (OPN) – is a group of Older People recruited by Community Services from across Cheshire, who have an interest in giving their views/ideas on health, social care, and other related services. Current membership is 380. Members of OPN are involved at a strategic planning level with the development of a number of initiatives, including the Extra Care Housing and Telecare Project.

Research Governance Framework in Health and Social Care (RGF) and Participation Promise (PP) – see Important Documents
These are two important initiatives, one national and one local, whose main purpose is to ensure the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of participants in research and consultation activities. One of the major tasks of CPU is to ensure the frameworks provided by both these initiatives become an integral part of Cheshire Community and Childrens Social Care Services Consultation and Participation Strategy.
