What are community meals?
Community Meals can be delivered to your home in two ways; hot or frozen. The hot meals are delivered at lunch time by a contractor appointed by the County Council. The frozen meals can be delivered on a weekly or fortnightly basis by the County Council’s supplier, who provides the meals for both services.
Each meal is made up of a main course and a sweet, and will provide the average adult with about a third of their daily nutritional needs. The service can provide for a variety of specialist diets e.g. diabetic, reduced fat, gluten free and vegetarian.
The Hot Meals Service is available to adults and older people living in their homes who are unable to prepare their own hot meal due to frailty, illness or disability. The service can be provided 7 days a week including all bank holidays in most areas of the County. The meals are delivered between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm each day, and should be eaten at the time of delivery because they have been frozen and should never be reheated again.
The Frozen Meals Service is only available to adults and older people who already have other services provided by Community Services and are able to reheat a meal as opposed to making a full meal. The service is available up to 7 meals per week.
How much do community meals cost and how do I pay?
Delivered hot meals cost £2.96 each; frozen meals cost £2.45 each. You will not have to pay for them at the door. All services provided by Cheshire County Council Community Services are invoiced every four weeks in arrears.
How do I request the service?
To request the Community Meals you can either telephone or write to your local Access Team. They will take the detail of your request and pass the information to a social work team who will then arrange to visit you to make an assessment of your needs. You can make the request yourself, or any one of the following can do it on your behalf; a relative, a friend/neighbour, or your Doctor or District Nurse.
How do I cancel a hot meal?
Hot meals can be cancelled up to 9.30 am on the day by contacting your Community Meals Service from Monday to Friday 01606 275062 or 01606 275059 and Sodexho 01606 591681 at weekends. Meals that are not cancelled will be charged for unless there are extenuating circumstances.
