Operational Frequently Asked Questions
Once people are familiar with the lay-out of the form it does not take any longer than existing assessment forms to fill in.
By sharing assessment data the need for different professionals to ask a person the same questions should be removed and all the people involved in a person’s care should have access to the same information which should reduce any confusion about who’s doing what.
Only those people who are involved in the care of clients who have either an MDS-HC licence or facility to view assessment data. Older people may request a copy of your assessment. As routine they will be given a copy of basic details, the assessment summary and care plan.
Training:
As part of the preparation for introducing the electronic version of MDS-HC each of the partner organisations has undertaken an audit of IT skills for those people who will be using the new system.
For each implementation phase there will be 4 people in each locality who have been trained as expert users. It will be their responsibility to provide you with training.
The training will be available in different ways. There will be a Computer Based Training package (CBT) available to you access via the SAP website. This will give you some background information on MDS-HC and work though how to fill in the assessment forms, generate the care plan and make referrals.
The expert users will be running one day classroom based training sessions in local IT training suites and providing small group or one-to-one training in the work place as required.
The expert users for phase 1 are as follows:
West Kate Bebe Ellesmere Port, County Offices
West Terri Reilly Ellesmere Port, County Offices
West Sue George Countess of Chester Hospital, Community Rehab Building
West Rachel Townsend Great Sutton Medical Centre, Old Chester Road
Central Geraldine Thomas Northwich, Watling Street/Riverside Surgery

By the time phase 3 of the roll-out is implemented there will be 40 expert users throughout Cheshire to provide help and support to users.
IT/Hardware:
For a successful implementation and ongoing use of the system access to the system will need to be available. Each agency will be responsible for access to the system by their staff. One of the major benefits of the system is that it is available over the Internet so all that is required is a PC with Internet access.
No, your role will not change. The system has been designed so that the demographic information will be automatically completed. Drop down menus and pick boxes are included to make the completion of the assessments as easy as possible. Obviously you will also have the benefit of sharing the information from other assessments and adding to existing assessments instead of starting from the beginning.
As mobile devices are rolled out within your organisation the system is designed to accommodate these devices. Ideally all assessments should be available on mobile devices but the cost implications of this could be prohibitive.
The system will export information in an industry standard format (xml) enabling the information to be imported into existing and future systems. Each organisation will take responsibility for links to their existing systems.
The National Programme for IT, which is being delivered by the new Department of Health agency NHS Connecting for Health, is bringing modern computer systems into the NHS to improve patient care and services. Over the next ten years, the National Programme for IT will connect over 30,000 GPs in England to almost 300 hospitals and give patients access to their personal health and care information, transforming the way the NHS works.
The SAP solution that Cheshire has chosen is a three year interim solution prior to the availability of a national solution. At some point in the future the social care community will either be using or interfacing to the NPfIT.
Each person’s record will link to the NHS community index database ‘Exeter’ and as their record changes in Exeter that information will feed directly into the CSAP system.
Standard reports are being developed as part of the system. |
