Adaptations to Property

Main heading

Sub-heading

People who are experiencing a disability or illness, may require improvements and adaptations to their home in order to help them live more independently. Two kinds of grants are available to help in this: House Renovation Grants to make properties fit to live in; and Disabled Facilities Grants to make houses suitable for disabled people i.e. to introduce ramps, adapt doors, bathrooms etc.

In order to access one of these grants your appropriate Housing Authority will need to assess your needs. For both grants you may be expected to pay some of the costs, depending on your income. For more information contact your local Housing Association or Borough Council.

Age Concern produce a factsheet on Financial Help with Repairs and Adaptations.
