Key Standard 4 – Support For Carer’s Own Health

It is important that carers take care of their own health and wellbeing so that they are better able to cope with the demands of caring for someone else.  Often carers can neglect their own health needs and we have forged strong links with colleagues in the health services to help to identify carers and ensure their particular needs are met.

Current activity includes:

• GPs identify carers from among their patients
• The Cheshire Carers Centre is piloting a voucher scheme for carers to access therapies though colleges
• The Carers Fund can provide a maximum of £250 per household to support carers: the process is through application through a panel
• Exercise on prescription
• Carers courses include elements such as moving and handling and coping strategies
• Books on prescription from Cheshire libraries
