Product Safety

Main heading

Sub-heading

All products are required to be safe and have to be made to standards laid down in legislation, European and National standards or recognised industry codes of good practice. High priority is attached to the prevention of unsafe consumer products circulating through Cheshire. Officers conduct safety inspections of goods at retail, wholesale, manufacturer and importer level to ensure compliance with all safety controls examples of which include bicycles, bunk beds, cosmetics, electrical equipment, pushchairs, recreational craft, furniture and toys.

Traders are advised on how to ensure their products are safe. Advice is given on testing, labelling and technical documentation required for a variety of products. Samples are taken and are submitted for testing to ensure compliance. When products are found to be unsafe either during inspection or following complaints, the matter is dealt with promptly. When necessary suspension notices are issued to prevent further distribution and possible prosecution may follow.
