Concessionary Fare Information for Bus & Rail Travel - Cheshire, Halton & Warrington
The new English National Concessionary Travel scheme came into operation on 1st April 2008. The scheme gives people aged 60 or over, or with an eligible disability, entitlement to free off-peak travel on local bus services throughout England. In order to take advantage of this, you will need a ENCTS Smartcard pass. Application forms are available from your local district council.

The old style Cheshire, Halton and Warrington passes expired 30th September 2008 and any attempted use of them for travel may result in confiscation of the pass by the driver and return to the scheme administrators.

Rail Concessions
Disabled Persons Railcard
Depending on the nature of your disability you may qualify for a Disabled Persons Railcard. If you qualify, you can get up to one third off the price of many rail tickets for an entire year.
You may be able to purchase a disabled persons railcard from your District Council at a reduced rate. Please use the District Council contact details above to find out what they provide.
Senior Railcard
You can get up to one third off the price of most rail fares throughout Britain with a Senior Railcard, to qualify you must be over 60 years old. The Senior Railcard costs £24 for a year from National Rail.
You may be able to purchase a senior railcard from your District Council at a reduced rate. Please use the District Council contact details above to find out what they provide.
Young Persons Railcard
If you are between 16-25 years old or a mature student, you can save one third off the price of most rail fares throughout Britain. The Young Persons Railcard costs £24 for a year.
Family Railcard
Up to 4 adults and 4 children can use a Family Railcard. Children get 60% off and adults travelling with children can get up to one third off the price of most rail fares throughout Britain. The cost of a Family Railcard is £24 for a year.
