Introduction
Cheshire’s School Crossing Patrol Service ensures the safety of school children crossing roads at approximately 100 points across the county.
School Crossing Patrols started in Cheshire in 1954. Their role has never been more important than today and as the number of vehicles on the road increases, so does the danger for our children when crossing the roads.
To manage the crossing points our School Crossing Patrols require a combination of professional skills to manage the traffic, and personal skills to deal with children, drivers, parents and teachers.
The role involves dealing will many day to day challenges, from poor weather conditions to rude drivers and cheeky children. Job satisfaction overcomes this through the relationships built up, and the respect received from the local community.

School Crossing Patrols are employed by the Council. The Transport and Regeneration Service is responsible for appointment, training, supervision and administration of the service and for details contact Susie Denham on 01244 973027.
The School Crossing Patrol Service works closely with Cheshire's School Travel Team.
School Crossing Patrol Sites in Cheshire
We need a School Crossing Patrol on our road. What can I do? Who can I ask?
Members of the general public should contact the Head Teacher of the local school who will contact the School Travel Team Manager requesting a site visit.
Prior to Cheshire School Travel Team's site visit, the Head Teacher or the school governing body are required to put in writing the request for a site visit along with the circumstances and recommendations as to where the proposed crossing should be sited. Road Safety site assessments are scored taking into consideration the road, the volume of traffic using the road at school times and the number of pedestrians. There must be a minimum of at least 15 unaccompanied children.
All requests for School Crossing Patrol sites must come through the local schools.
