Traveline Txt

What is Traveline Txt?

Traveline Txt is a mobile phone SMS texting service that allows you to get bus times direct to your mobile.

You can now get timetable information just a text message away for Cheshire bus passengers, who can have the times of the next few buses leaving their local stop sent direct to their mobile phone, 24 hours a day.

Whether at home, work, or out and about, passengers simply need to text their unique bus stop code to 84268 in order to receive a reply containing the times of the next three scheduled bus services.

Why should I use Traveline Txt?

Traveline Txt allows you to get bus times to your mobile no matter where you are. Once you have found the code for your regular stops you can save these to your mobile's memory, then if you have to stay late at the office one night and can't remember the bus times simply send a txt message to the code you saved to receive up to the next three departure times to your mobile.

How do I find the code for my stop?

Since October 2006 the codes have been included in bus stop timetables as they are updated. So far over 2000 stops have codes displayed. For those stops not yet upgraded you can find the code by using Transport Direct (see below).

Using Transport Direct

To find the code for stops in your area check the stop details on the maps at Transport Direct.

  1. Using the homepage "Find a Place" option put your address or postcode into the "Place" box and click "go".
  2. Check the names of the stops which appear in your area (you may need to zoom in on the stops - the stop names and codes appear only when zoomed in to the largest scale).
  3. Note down the codes for the stops which you use regularly they look like "chwmtap".
  4. Send your message (see below).

How do I use Traveline Txt?

To use the service, simply type the stop code as a text message in your mobile phone and send it to 84268. If the stop is a busy one you can also add the service number you want (leaving a space after the stop code) ... so your message might look like "chwmtap 66".

You will receive a message back, normally in less than a minute, typically with details of the next three departures from that stop (and on that service, if you added a service number). These will be taken from the service timetables in most areas - but will come from realtime information systems in those areas where this is available. Typically the message will show a clock time if the information comes from timetables (eg: 0935) but it will show an expected waiting time (eg: 5mins) if it comes from a realtime information system.

Remember the service is specific to an individual stop for travel in that one direction ... the code for the stop in the other direction will be different!

How much does it cost?

In Cheshire the cost of the service is 25p plus the normal cost for you to send your original message.
