What is the difference between the Cheshire, Traveline and Transport Direct websites?
All three sites provide an internet service for planning public transport journeys from an origin to a destination. The public transport data even comes from the same source. The data is however indexed in different ways and may sometimes give slightly different answers. If you just need a bus timetable and already know your service number, please use the timetable PDF directory:
Bus Services 1 to 39
Bus Services 40 to 100
Bus Services 101 to X94
Internet Journey Planners
The Council's Portal provides information for all bus services that start or end in Cheshire as well as links to other public transport information for Cheshire.
Traveline leads you to one of 12 regional journey planners. These give fast responses to local enquiries. Each of them have the main national timetables in them so you can plan journeys to or from each region to the main towns and cities throughout the UK. These journey planners are provided as part of the National Traveline service.
Transport Direct allows you to ask for locations throughout Great Britain and also gives information for travel by car. It uses a copy of the data from the relevant traveline regional journey planners and other databases. The results are supported by detailed maps, live travel information and comparisons which may not be available in the traveline journey planners.

Long Distance Journeys
Long Distance Journeys can be planned using the a mixture of Traveline regional sites or Transport Direct depending on the complexity of the journey. The Traveline telephone service 0871 200 22 33 can also be used and has the benefit of being able to provide information on route variations due to road works etc that may not be modelled in the journey planners.
What is the Council's role in these services?
The Council runs the Cheshire Traveline call centre based at Ellesmere Port and is responsible for the bus stop and timetable data within Cheshire that is used by the Cheshire, Traveline and Transport Direct websites. The Council is also responsible for maintaining other national datasets that apply to the Councils administration boundary such as the National Gazetteer. The data is exported on a weekly basis and where possible service changes are available to view two weeks before their start date.
