The Council analysed household waste deposited at the Household Waste and Recycling Centres during 1999 and 2000.
The aim of the exercise was to determine exactly what type of waste is being deposited at the Centres and in what quantities. This allows us to determine what additional recycling facilities need to be placed on the sites in order to meet Government targets on recycling.
Local Authorities have statutory targets to increase recycling and composting of household waste to 40% by 2010, 45% by 2015 and 50% by 2020.
The exercise also provided baseline data about our waste arisings which fed into the development of an Integrated Waste Strategy for Cheshire. The District Councils also carried out a similar waste analysis exercise on the rubbish collected through weekly refuse collections. This information also fed into the integrated waste strategy.
